There’s something special that happens when passionate educators gather without a scripted, formal agenda. That was the palpable feeling at the very first LYIS Lead Meet, held recently in Shenzhen – an afternoon that surpassed all expectations and solidified the need for more genuine connections within our international community.
The concept was simple: create an authentic space for LYIS members and those curious about our mission to come together. There were no PowerPoint slides, no strict timetables, and no predetermined speakers. The warm Shenzhen air was filled with the vibrant hum of natural, flowing conversation.
What Did People Talk About?
Everything. Attendees shared candidly about themselves, their travels, and their unique situations at school. In the process, exchanging innovative ideas that sparked inspiration, and delving into meaningful discussions about the heart of leadership, without even knowing it. The conversation can be about wherever it goes; about personal wellbeing, the challenges we face, and the small victories that keep us going. This was a true gathering of hearts and minds.
The success of the afternoon was measured by its engagement. The event was so immersive that when the time came to head our separate ways, people were genuinely reluctant to leave, eager to continue the conversations that had begun some four hours earlier.
Community, Community!
The LYIS Lead Meet proved a powerful truth: sometimes the most valuable professional development is simply a room, a tea or coffee, and the opportunity to connect, share, and listen. And no egos here. It was a reminder that at the core of LYIS is a community that we are building, and this community is allowing people to come together as their authentic selves. We wouldn’t have it any other way. A special ‘thank-you’ to everyone who attended. We will take this moment with us, wherever we go.

Following the incredible success of our Shenzhen gathering, the next LYIS Lead Meet is coming to Guangzhou on Saturday, September 20th, with our LYIS Member – Jay Chen, at 10 AM and Seoul on Sunday, September 21st, at 2 PM, with Amy and André.
What is the LYIS Lead Meet?
An authentic, agenda-free gathering for LYIS members and anyone interested in connecting with like-minded educators and being a part of LYIS. It’s a space to:

- Exchange ideas and spark new inspiration.
- Discuss leadership in its many forms.
- Talk about wellbeing and support each other’s journey.
