It was a unique and rewarding experience to finally connect with Dr. Marc Mesich and visit my old school The International School of Penang (Uplands), not once, but twice last week. A joy to see how the school continues to move onwards and upwards and in doing so with the work of teachers like Kevin O’Shea places sustainability front and centre of its ongoing ambitions.

Such was the quality and depth of conversation between Marc and I, one meeting was simply not enough! Having the opportunity to share stories of leadership, their models and what international schools and their principals need to focus on was a true education.

For the last twelve years, Dr. Marc Mesich has been an MYP / DP Evaluation Leader, Multi-Programme Visit Chair and Workshop Leader, visiting International Baccalaureate schools all over the world. His knowledge and articulation of leadership are outstanding and we share an equal level of passion and thirst for inquiry around educational leadership.

Spending time looking at our Leading Your International School leadership framework and leader profile was incredibly valuable. We looked at the work of Vivianne Robinson, Kenneth Leithwood, Hallinger and Murphy to name a few.

What is great leadership to Marc?

➡️ Focusing on the right areas of importance
➡️ Putting your trust in staff
➡️ Buffering staff from distractions that can inhibit the quality of their work

All rounded off by dinner with the school’s incredible counsellor David Johnson, himself retiring at the the end of the school year.
