LYIS Visits St Bees Dongguan

by LYIS

Leading Your International School’s latest school visit took us to St Bees Dongguan, spending the morning with the school’s principal Sarah Wang and Deputy Head Stephen O’Farrell.

Among our many lines of inquiry, we talked about how leadership is a process that empowers others, and that a school’s culture is built around a positive learning environment.

It is important “to communicate your vision, and make sure that everyone is on the same page”, noted Sarah. We learned the importance of breaking down the vision into smaller bite-size pieces that can be more easily modelled and articulated.

Sarah reminded me that she was “incredibly proud of the school and its leadership team who have dedicated themselves to the school’s development”.

When it comes to recruitment, the school focuses on delving deep into the individual strengths and values of each teacher to ensure the right fit. “We look for teachers who are passionate about teaching and are keen to develop themselves personally and professionally”.

St Bees Dongguan opened in 2020 and is a Sixth-Form British Boarding School offering the A Level curriculum to its students. It counts the University of Oxford, ICL and the University of Edinburgh as some of its students’ university destinations in its short history to date.

Leading Your International School extends its warm appreciation to Sarah, Stephen and the St Bees Dongguan staff for their time, openness and warm welcome that we received.
