Leading Your International School’s Trip to LVS Ascot, Berkshire

by André Double

Thank you to Christine Cunniffe – Principal, LVS Ascot for taking the time to meet with Amy Zhang张远远 and I to talk about the LVS Ascot School and her approaches to leadership with Leading Your International School.

A remarkable leader in many ways, Christine is also the author of the book: ‘Transforming School Culture through Lesson Observation: A Collective and Collaborative Approach’. Her route into school leadership was far from ordinary – becoming a Grade 8 pianist by the time she was only 14 years old was a catalyst for the early part of her career.

As a Principal, Christine notes how it is an incredible privilege ‘when you start changing lives’. Children are at the heart of everything her leadership represents. She places great emphasis on giving all teachers the opportunities to develop as leaders. The school is in a constant cycle of review when it comes to its practices and operations, constantly in search of ways in which it can further improve its educational impact.

Christine ‘serves as a Director for The Society of Heads committee and has carried the post of Hon Treasurer since 2020. She has also undertaken roles as Chair of the Professional Development Committee and a member of the Boarding Schools’ Association Executive Committee.

LVS is ‘an award-winning, all-ability independent day and boarding school that inspires boys and girls from 4 to 18 to exceed their expectations’.

In its recent ISI Inspection, the inspection team wrote:

“Leaders continually review and evaluate the impact of their decisions and check for unintended consequences arising from their approaches. As a result, there is a positive school culture, with support for the mental wellbeing of all members of the school community. The views of pupils, parents and staff are listened to, the school has an outward-looking perspective, and boarding is well managed.”

Set in an incredible location and with a heavy emphasis on pastoral care, students are supported extensively both inside and outside the classroom.

Leading Your International School extends its warm thanks to Christine Cunniffe and all the staff at LVS Ascot School for making our visit so enjoyable.

We wish the students, teachers and wider staff all the very best in the coming term ahead.
