LYIS Visits Stonyhurst International School Penang

by Andrรฉ Double

This week Leading Your International School visited Stonyhurst International School Penang and the school’s Head of Junior School, Emma-Marie Horridge. Here, are the highlights of our visit…

During our tour of the campus, Emma detailed the rapid growth in the school’s student population which has seen it grow to over 600 students in just two years since opening. Like many schools faced with the challenges of COVID-19, the school has proved incredibly versatile.

Walking around the campus, it self-designed by the VERITAS Design Group, you get a distinct sense that the school has a unique opportunity to grow into the campus and mould its educational direction. A modern purpose-built school, that has been clearly thought out to meet the needs of the school and its future expansion. Rooms have central atriums for collaborative learning and the central field and swimming pool are an incredible sight, visible from all angles. The multipurpose sports hall can fit two full-size basketball courts.

The staff room surely has one of the most jaw-dropping views of any international school in the world.

Founded in 1593, Stonyhurst lays claim to being the oldest continuously operating school in the world. Its Latin motto โ€˜Quant Je Puisโ€™ (as much as I can), remains as relevant now as it was centuries ago – particularly when it comes to the character education of its students.

As the school continues to grow, it is well-placed to identify and solve challenges around sustainability and has plans to make the most of its proximity to the sea for both service and experiential learning.

Leading Your International School would like to thank Emma-Marie Horridge and Richard Moore for making us feel so welcome. We look forward to returning in the future and in seeing how the school continues to grow and serve the needs of its students.
